Blogging as a Digital Nomad

One of the most popular business ideas for online entrepreneurs like Digital Nomads is without a doubt, blogging. Most digital nomads are bloggers or online entrepreneurs who are used to blogging and know what it takes to make money from their blogs. This article is intended to help those who are new to blogging, new to the idea of being a digital nomad and willing to learn the best way for bloggers to monetize their blogs.

What is Google Adsense?

When you submit your blog to be included in the Google Adsense program, Google will start (with your permission) displaying Pay Per Click (PPC) ads on your blog. Google sends web crawlers to analyze the content of your blog and display advertisements that have keywords relevant to what’s on your blog. When a page visitor clicks on the ads displayed in your blog, the advertiser pays Google an amount of money for each click. Google keeps a part of this money and sends the rest to you at the end of the month. If you have a good number of clicks per month, roughly 10,000 to 20,000, it adds up fast and you are assured of a very good income that can finance your lifestyle comfortably.

Make Money Blogging As A Digital Nomads

Don’t create too many expectations about the money that you’re likely to make from Google Adsense. It takes time and effort to grow a blog and there are no shortcuts. Don’t join the Adsense program, expecting immediate returns. Income for the first few months is probably going to be around $10 a day. But as a digital nomad, this amount will surely assist with your living expenses, particularly if you are living in a low income country like Thailand or Cambodia.

You will need to know the basics of WordPress. This shouldn’t be a problem as WordPress is very user friendly and it won’t take more than a few days to get up to speed with these things. Also, if you’re struggling with the creation of your website, you can always outsource the web development to a freelancer on Elance or oDesk. They do amazing work for unbelievably low sums. Your website layout should be elegant and attractive, the navigation of your site should be as simple as it gets.

Learn the basics of search engine optimization (SEO) to get your site on top of Google’s search engine results pages (SERP). SEO is more of an art than science, and your knowledge of SEO should be updated with every new update to Google’s algorithm. For instance, there is a big difference between the SEO done before Google’s recent Penguin and Panda updates, and that which is practiced now. Also, it is critical that you don’t do anything with your SEO that gets your site hit with a Google penalty. Getting punished by Google is the worst thing that can happen to a blogger, which immediately shuts off his or her income flow. This happens only if a blogger (inadvertently or not) violates Google’s Guidelines. Learn what those guidelines are.

Blogging as a Digital Nomad

But the most important thing about being a blogger is creating great content. You must have great content that is very informative and interesting. You should write for a specific target audience in mind, aka niche, rather than aim for a general readership. And most importantly, you should really enjoy what you’re writing about and have excellent knowledge of it. You can’t fool your readers.

Use social media and interact with your readers. A successful blogger is one who has a very successful social media strategy. Social media is today one of the most important ways of getting traffic to a blog. Nothing beats getting a blog post going viral on Facebook or Twitter. That’s a transformational event. Interact with your readers, engage with them and respond to their queries and suggestions.

Focus on building up one site first before starting another. Diversification can always come later once your primary blog is successful. Work on just one blog in the beginning, make it as attractive as you can, fill it with quality content and engage with your readers. This gets you much greater income than several small sites that hardly get you a dollar or two a day.
